Harvest Festival Original Art & Craft Show - Pomona, CA

A yuletide celebration complete with all the trimmings…

Holiday gift giving gets the personal touch when the Harvest Festival® Original Art & Craft Show rings in the season at the Fairplex in Pomona November 30-December 2, featuring more than 24,000 dazzling handmade creations. It’s a Santa’s helpers “shopfest” with strolling performers, an interactive Kidzone, contests, specialty foods, demonstrations, and more.

Holiday bliss is a treasured tradition with this event that transforms the Fairplex into a winter wonderland for the largest and most prestigious indoor showcase on the west coast. In themed attire and merriment, 300+ multi-talented artists & crafters from across the nation will showcase their originals of stunning jewelry, clothing, specialty foods, photography, oils, hand-turned wood, ceramics, eclectic art pieces, holiday décor and ornaments, blown glass, and much more. Patrons know with confidence that each of the works is made by hand and selected only after meeting criteria for excellence.  Many of the artists can personalize items for that special holiday gift.

“Our holiday showcase is the largest of all our productions, and the most fun,” says Nancy Glenn, owner of the Harvest Festival. “It’s all about sharing in an immersive holiday experience that brings friends and families together in the spirit of the season.”

In the spirit of giving, the showcase collaborates with local non-profits to fundraise in support of community programs. Patrons who bring canned goods for donation to the Foothill Family Shelter will get $2 off their admission. Macaroni Kid hosts the Kidzone with Home Depot, and Priceless Pets hosts the parcel check and will have four-legged friends on site for adoption. The Southern California News Group is the official newspaper.

Hanart Chinese Lantern Festival - Tickets on Sale

This November, the Pomona Fairplex will host TheHanart Culture Chinese Lantern Festival, a fully immersive multicultural experience the entire family will love.  This premier event will be held every Thursday – Sunday for eight weeks, from November 15, 2018 - January 6, 2019, plus holiday. The evening skies become ablaze with the color and light of over 1,000 beautifully handcrafted lanterns at the Glade, Picnic Hill and Lagoon at Fairplex Pomona (1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona, CA 91768).

This year’s theme, “The Wild,” features five different locations – America, Oceania, Asia, Antarctica and Africa – and will showcase lanterns representing wild animals from each region including cheetahs, panda bears, jellyfish, majestic cranes, lions, and even dinosaurs.  These impressive lanterns range in size from 12 – 23 feet tall.  This visually stunning display combines art, tradition, and culture, creating opportunities for alluring photographs and wonderful memories.

The Lantern Festival is one of China’s most traditional celebrations with the art of Chinese lantern making dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. – 220 A.D.).  “These gorgeous lanterns have evolved through the centuries, from when they were used for lighting, to an art form all their own.  Chinese lanterns are a cherished part of festivals and celebrations world-wide and we are proud to bring the Hanart Culture Chinese Lantern Festival to Southern California,” said George Zhao, president of Hanart Culture.

A lantern’s construction is varied according to its purpose, from the finest silk or glass over the best wood used in Palaces, to the red gauze stretched over bamboo in the more traditional red lanterns recognized around the globe.  Shadow-picture lanterns used a paper wheel inside which turned when heated, creating moving pictures around the outside of the lantern.

Today, these lanterns are made of modern materials and technology with brilliantly lit colored LED lightbulbs, musical enhancements and sound effects, and visual moving parts to create larger-than-life imaginative shapes.  Furthermore, four ceramic elephants made of 3,200 kitchen utensils such as dishes, bowls, spoons and wine cups will be on display.

The festival will also feature food, Kung Fu shows and demonstrations, and shadow play.  Guests will also be able to shop the craft marketplace where authentic Chinese jewelry, artifacts, dough figurines, as well as Chinese embroidery art, sugar art, paper-cut and fabric art will be available for purchase.

Thanksgiving Dinner - Why Not Let Someone Else Cook

This is going to be the first year I host Thanksgiving dinner for my little family. I know for most people this is a big deal, they go all out and cook all day long, running themselves ragged just so everyone else can eat a ton of food. I say everyone else because I for one never end up eating after I cook...who wants to grub after spending 8+ hours staring at it on the burner? Yeah, not this lady.

I like to really enjoy my food so I'm letting someone else do the cooking! Being as we're uber close to the day you're probably thinking it's too late to place an order...wrong. You'd be surprised how many restaurants will take orders up until the Friday before Thanksgiving.

Here's a list of places I found are still taking orders until this Friday, Nov. 22.

Marie Calendar's (various locations)- They wiill supply everything from a Turkey or Ham to the coffee you serve with your pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving feasts start at $99 for 6-8 people. You can even place your order online.

OrangeTree Deli* (Orange, CA) - Their regular Thanksgiving dinner (they say feeds 5-6 people, IMO it feeds 6-8) includes: Cooked turkey (cut or whole), 2 pies (pumpkin & cherry), homemade cranberry sauce, homemade mashed potatoes, stuffing, green salad, homemade biscuits & butter, utensils, and drinks. They charge $15.95 per person, so if you have a party of 5 this meal will cost you $79.75. Website does not give info on this dinner, call 714-998-4847 & ask for Leah for more details.

Lucille's BBQ (various locations) - Not just BBQ...you can get a whole smoked Turkey for as little as $49.99 or opt for their delicious Holiday Family Feast with Fixin's starting at $149.99.

*This is who'll be cooking up my Thanksgiving dinner. I had them once before, 2 years ago, and they made such a great meal I swore I'd use them if I ever had to host.
